Welcome

Welcome to Austin!

Hello!

Icenhauer's | Rainey Street - The sangria is magical!

I don’t feel like I can truly kickoff this new adventure without a proper introduction and a cold drink. So, before we get to the good stuff, here’s how this all came about.

We made it…(OK, nine months ago). But, I think we are finally settling in.  Kyle & I picked up our cozy lives in Jacksonville Beach, and decided the world just had to be a little bigger than beach bars and a lackluster downtown. Not to throw any shade Jacksonville’s way because I miss shoving my toes in the sand and cheering on my Jaguars.

“Moving without jobs is crazy” was the understatement of 2015. Despite that, we both really lucked out, and landed gigs within our first week here. Then, the fun began. I think we’ve done quite a bit in our short time, but it’s mostly surrounded the food scene.

Tacos are never more than a stone’s throw of where you are standing in Austin. I must say the food is amazing. Maybe, a little too great because my wardrobe seems a little snugger (I’ll save that for another day). Kyle & I are both foodies at heart. So, I must say moving halfway across the country from all your friends and family is made much better when faced with endless cuisine options.

The most surprising restaurant we’ve eaten at is Uchi. To be honest, it wasn’t high on my personal list because the thought of eating fish so far from the coast (as our previous lives had afforded us) sort of sketched me out.  Nevertheless, we went once for happy hour and it’s now a favorite. I’m not a food critic, so I’m not going to get into the details. However, this is the only sushi you’ll crave after trying it.

The dog-friendliness of Austin soon wore us down. Whistler had us wrapped around his paw since Day 1. We rescued him from Weimaraner Rescue of Texas. He was being fostered in Houston, so that’s where we met him and his brother, Jasper  (who was also adopted and is living in Austin coincidentally). If you think moving across the country jobless is crazy, throw “getting a dog with your boyfriend” into the mix. I’m almost certain everyone thinks we are off our rockers…(we are). He’s the best thing that ever happened to us, as well as, pretty much the only thing we ever argue about. Unless you count putting knives in the dishwasher. WHO DOES THAT?!

I think that wraps up my time so far  in Austin. I plan to share inspiration, happiness, and positivity through beauty, style, food & adventure. I hope you’ll follow along, and leave with a smile.

XO,

Kimberly
